Wandering America

We Are Now Fulltimers

Morley, Michigan

In the spring we had taken a seasonal site at Mecosta Pines Campground in Morley, Michigan.  We enjoyed socializing with the other seasonals. Every weekend we would get together at someone's site to swap stories and share wine around the camp fire. Toward the end of the summer there were cook outs where we would all chip in for the meat and bring a dish to pass.  From this experience we know that our fulltiming lifestyle at some point will consist of a home base campground where this type of fellowship takes place.

As for now we want the freedom to go "Wandering America".  However, as we travel we want to serve others therefore we have added our names to the RV Care-A-Vanners mailing list and will participate in Habitat for Humanity builds. The news letters will provide the schedule and the locations for "builds" that are taking place across the country.  This will require us to do some advance planning but will be worth it as we meet new RVing friends as well as the families who will be recipients of the homes.

Our home sold just after the 4th of July and closing was set for August 1st leaving us a month to dispose of our belongings.  You may think you're ready; but believe us, you're not.  While all of the decisions are being made you run around with a lump in your throat.  It is amazing how attached we become to the things that we own (actually the things that own us).  We got through it with two yard sales, a trip to Tennessee to deliver "stuff" to our kids, and a couple of trips to Goodwill.  We also had a 7' x 7' storage shed erected at our son's house where we store our keepsakes, books, and a few pieces of furniture.

We moved fulltime into our fifth-wheel on July 28, 2006 and lived at the campground.  Judy continued working through August and Darrell worked until October 13th.  We got our tail feathers dusted with 2" of snow on October 11th - just didn't get out of Michigan fast enough.  We had planned to leave Michigan on Monday the 16th but the weather turned cold and enough was enough, so we bolted on Saturday heading for the warmer climate.

This trip will be taking us through Indiana, Tennessee, and Arkansas while on our way to Texas to become residents.  Why become Texas residents?  Livingston, Texas is the home of the Escapees RV Club which we are members.  Escapees will provide us with a permanent addresss for our mail, licenses, and insurance.  They have a mail forwarding service so we will be able to get our mail while we are on the road.  There are several Escapees Parks that are inexpensive for members as well as a 15%  off on many campgrounds throughout the United States.

Waa Whoo!! We're Fulltimers!
